HEAVY METAL PICNIC

Jeff Krulik / 2010 / USA / 80 mins

Screens with HEAVY METAL PARKING LOT (1986 / 17 mins)

Jeff Krulik, the VHS auteur responsible for one of the most legendary low-fi masterpieces of the tape trading underground of the 80s and 90s, Heavy Metal Parking Lot, returns with a new film! – one, which could almost be considered a prequel. After the historic capturing of a generation lost in the haze of drugs, alcohol and head-banger music, Krulik’s latest offering, Heavy Metal Picnic, is a celebration of more heavy metal madness that focuses on the 1985 Full Moon Jamboree in Maryland USA, an affair so raucous that it made the evening news, was the farm party to end all farm parties, and much of it was recorded using a home video camera and a stolen CBS News microphone. Krulik takes us on a fascinating and delightful ride, revisiting the notorious party, now 25 years on, meeting the people behind the event, as well as the musicians who performed there, including mid-Atlantic doom metal icons, Asylum.

“It’s always fun to see the jackass in some of us” – Film Threat

“If you remember the Maryland farm parties, then you weren’t there.”

“Metal rules. Madonna sucks man, she’s a dick.”
