Michael Lira is an Australian composer and musician. His most notable film scores include the Ozploitation Zombie hit - Wyrmwood : Road Of The Dead (2014), Growing Up Smith - directed by Frank Lotito and starring Jason Lee, Daniel Nettheim's The Hunter (2011) (Co composed with Matteo Zingales) Starring Willem Dafoe.
TV credits include Rebel Wilson's hilarious musical Bogan Pride, Rake (2013), The Slap (2012), Wild Boys and The Einstein Factor (2004).As MD and composer for live shows, credits include; Circus Oz, live scores with Darth Vegas for Murnau's classic - Nosferatu (1922) at the Sydney Opera house, and the Sydney Theatre Company’s production of A Comedy Of Errors (2013) and even a series of Joan Rivers performances at Sydney's State Theatre.
Currently Lira MD's international live show Club Swizzle as Mikey and the Nightcaps . Lira’s scores have won numerous awards, including the Tropfest Tropscore award (Apart 2013), five APRA/AGSC awards for television music (A to Z of Contemporary Art (2013), The Slap (2012), Rake (2011), Staines Down Drains and The Einstein Factor (2004)) and an AFI Award for The Hunter (2011).
Latest projects include the score for the 'bat shit crazy' feature Nekrotronic by the Roache-Turner brothers starring Monica Bellucci as well as the documentary A Turtle Odyssey starring Bunji the turtle and narrated by Russell Crowe. Both projects were recorded at Trackdown Studios Sydney and performed by The Sydney Scoring Orchestra.
